A Brief Look into Plantronics
Courtney Graham, a United Airlines pilot and his friend Keith Larkin founded the then Pacific Plantronics. Their discovery came as a result of complaints laid by American pilots about the robust and heavy headset used for communication during flight.
Many of the pilots wanted the bulky headset replaced with something lighter, so they created a small, functional design that was strong enough to pass airline standards. The design features two small hearing aid-style microphone transducer attached to a headband submit to United Airlines for approval.
On the 18th day of May 1961, following the UAL’s approval of the innovative design, they introduced the first lightweight communications headset, the MS-50, to the commercial marketplace. Since the time, Plantronics has expertly made one benchmark after the other and has set overall standards for a headset and different communication devices. In December 2018, Plantronics obtained a subsidiary named Polycom in 2019, after the Polycom merger, Plantronics rebranded as “Poly”.
